NFL Rumors: Vince Young, Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb

Mike Lombardi of NFL Network discussed some of the potential options that Vince Young, Carson Palmer and Donovan McNabb could have during the offseason.

Carson Palmer

Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown mentioned yesterday that he has no intention of trading Carson Palmer. Despite Brown’s comments to the contrary, Mike Lombardi says that the 49ers are team to watch if they change their mind in regards to trading Palmer but adds that Mike Brown is a man of his word and isn’t likely to part with Palmer.

Lombardi nearly got the 49ers GM job and is close to Jim Harbaugh which helps to validate the idea. Another thing to consider is that the 49ers are a solid quarterback away from being the favorite in the NFC West.

Donovan McNabb

Lombardi mentions that a Donovan McNabb trade isn’t likely unless he is willing to renegotiate his contract so that his $12.5 million option bonus for next season is adjusted. The Eagles had a hard time finding teams that were willing to give up draft picks in return for McNabb which will likely affect Redskins asking price if they choose to trade him. Lombardi suggests that the Minnesota Vikings are team that may consider McNabb. Other teams that have been mentioned are the Seahawks, 49ers and Cardinals.

Vince Young

Interestingly enough, Lombardi speculates that Buffalo Bills could be a team that would give Vince Young the opportunity to compete for a job. Young has already mentioned that he intends on starting for another team but as of right now that doesn’t appear to be a likely scenario.

Lombardi makes a good point in that Young shold focus on the opportunity to compete rather than intend on getting a starting job. He has plenty to prove at this point in his career and despite the number of teams that are in need of a solid quarterback, they aren’t as willing to take chances on players that would require the attention that Young would.
