NFL Teams Have Inquired About WR Vincent Jackson, Still Looking To Play In 2017

Free agent WR Vincent Jackson mentioned during an interview with WDAE-AM 620 that he still wants to play and has received some “inquiries” from interested teams.

Jackson was asked specifically if he believes he thought he would be a fit with the Buccaneers, even after they signed DeSean Jackson in free agency.

“I’m very dynamic as far as what I’ve done in the past throughout my career, you know, playing outside inside, having mismatches against safeties and things in the slot,” Jackson said, via JoeBucsFan.com. “So I pride myself on being a receiver that not only can just stretch the field on the outside one-on-one, but can run those intermediate routes, those third-down routes that can keep drives alive. Dirk’s a very, very smart guy. You know, I’m sure that he would put plenty of work in with Jameis and our offensive coordinator to put everybody in the best position to be successful. So, you know, there’s a lot of different things I could bring to the table.”

While Jackson has heard from teams and would like to play next year, he admits it could take some time for an opportunity to surface.

“I’m just going to wait until the right opportunity presents itself,” Jackson said. “I’m assuming it may be later this spring/early summer when people can kind of evaluate their roster, get through the draft, and know exactly what they need and what the value is. For me man, I’m being patient.

Jackson, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2005. He spent seven years in San Diego before signing a five-year, $55,555,555 contract that included $26 million guaranteed with the Buccaneers back in 2012.

Jackson made a base salary of  $9,777,778 for the 2016 season but unfortunately suffered a knee injury that led to him being placed on injured reserve.

In 2016, Jackson appeared in five games for the Buccaneers and recorded 15 receptions for 173 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Jackson’s free agent options as the news is available.
