No Contract Talks Between Jaguars & Allen Robinson Since Last Year

According to Mike Kaye, Jaguars WR Allen Robinson told him that he has not discussed a contract extension with the team since last year’s training camp.

Last week, Ian Rapoport reported that the Jaguars would like to bring Robinson back for the 2018 season and the real question is whether they’ll use their franchise tag on him at the cost of around $16 million.

Given the two sides have yet to negotiate a contract, it will be interesting to see how much the Jaguars value him. It is worth mentioning that Robinson is coming off an ACL injury, but the receiver believes he will be cleared in the near future.

Should Robinson end up testing the open market, Rapoport expects him to be one of the more coveted free agents this offseason. As long as everything checks out with Robinson’s knee, Rapoport says that the Bears, 49ers, Redskins and possibly the Raiders are likely to be among the teams in need of receiver help.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union mentioned during an appearance on the Ross Tucker Podcast” that it would be “shocking” if Robinson isn’t back in Jacksonville for the 2018 season.

“It would be shocking if Allen Robinson isn’t with the Jags next year,” O’Halloran said, per Tucker.

O’Halloran said that he believes Jacksonville will likely use their franchise tag on Robinson if they’re unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal in coming weeks.

Robinson, 24, is a former second-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played out the final year of a four-year, $3.510 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $898,755 for the 2017 season.

Robinson is now in position to test the open market for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Robinson appeared in one game and caught one pass for 17 yards and no touchdowns.
