No Extension Talks Between Redskins & DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon

Jason Cole of B/R, citing multiple sources close to Redskins receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, reports that Washington plans to keep both receivers on their roster, despite speculation that they could move on from one of them.

However, Cole adds that there have been no talks about contract extensions or possibly even restructuring either Garcon’s or Jackson’s current deals.

According to Cole, the Redskins elected to take WR Josh Doctson in round one in order to give themselves an option to replace either Jackson or Garcon next year.

Cole doesn’t rule out the possiblity of them possibly moving on from both players, even though he seems to think they’ll likely keep one of the two receivers.

Washington just locked up TE Jordan Reed to a big-money extension this past weekend and plan to build their offensive attack around him moving forward.

Garcon, 28, is currently in the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million contract that included $20.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $7.6 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Garcon appeared all 16 games for Washington and recorded 72 receptions for 777 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

Jackson, 29, is also in the final year of his three-year, $24 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed. Jackson will make a base salary of $8 million this year.

In 2015, Garcon appeared nine games for Washington and recorded 30 receptions for 528 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding potential extensions for both players as the news is available.
