No Guarantee Broncos Pursue QB Tony Romo, Even If Cowboys Release Him?

According to James Palmer (via Ian Rapoport), there is no guarantee the Broncos will pursue QB Tony Romo, even if the Cowboys release him this offseason.

Denver has made it clear that they aren’t interested in trading for Romo, but the expectation has been that they would be one of the two teams to watch along with the Texans as landing spots for Romo.

The Broncos have last year’s starter Trevor Siemain and former first-round pick Paxton Lynch at the position right now. However, there are clearly some questions about the teams upside in 2017 with either of them as their starting quarterback.

If Romo is willing to continue his career as reports have said he is, it would make sense for them to seriously consider him.

Adam Schefter reported that Fox Sports would like to replace John Lynch, who is the 49ers’ GM, with Romo. According to Schefter, there are other networks interested in Romo, his goal remains to play this season.

Some have wondered if retirement could be a serious consideration for Romo, given the injuries he’s dealt with in recent years and the fact that he would have to move on to a new team to keep playing.

Plus, reports have said for some time now that Romo had interest from TV networks, so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Romo, 36, is entering the fourth year of his seven-year, $119.5 million contract that included $55 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $14 million (2017), $19.5 million (2018) and $20.5 million (2019).

In 2016, Romo appeared in one game and completed three of four passing attempts for 29 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys.

We’ll have more regarding Romo as the news is available.
