According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, there have been no productive talks regarding a new contract between the Steelers and OLB Jason Worilds.
Bouchette mentions that it appears as though Worilds will play out the season under his one-year, $9.754 million transition tag, which happens to be fully guaranteed.
The Steelers placed their transition tag on Worilds a few months ago and he has since signed his one-year tender. A long-term agreement would not only keep him under team control for the foreseeable future, but also offer some immediate cap relief.
As things stand right now, Pittsburgh has only $258,917 in available cap space to work with, and Worilds represents one of the easiest sources of cap relief. Of course, Worilds asking price could be holding up progress, but the Steelers made it clear that he was their long-term solution when they parted ways with LaMarr Woodley this offseason.
Worilds, 25, produced 63 tackles, eight sacks and two forced fumbles this season and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 12 3-4 outside linebacker in the league.
