No Progress Between The Bears & Henry Melton Regarding A Long-Term Extension

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears have made very little progress towards a long-term extension for DT Henry Melton.

Chicago placed their franchise tag on Melton back in February. Melton has since signed his franchise tender and is set to make $8.5 million for the 2013 season. The Bears have until July 15 to work out a long-term.

“We’re just kind of talking through some things,” Melton said. “Everyone is getting set up and getting the drafted guys done. Hopefully we can sit down and get something done.”

Last year, the Bears franchised RB Matt Forte and managed to get a long-term deal completed just before the deadline. In the NFL, deadlines spur action, so we’ll have to talks pick up after June.
