“Nothing Going On” Between Cowboys & Darrelle Revis, Despite Dez Tweet

A team source tells Clarence Hill that there’s “nothing going on” between the Cowboys and free agent CB Darrelle Revis, despite Dez Bryant recently recruiting him to join the team on Twitter.

According to Mike Garafolo, the Tweet from Bryant was “Dez being Dez” and the Cowboys like their current options in their secondary.

Garafolo adds that Dallas has liked what they’ve seen from Orlando Scandrick this summer and used three draft picks on defensive backs a few months ago, so it’s not as though they don’t have options to consider.

Dallas signed veteran Nolan Carroll to a contract this past March and used draft picks on Chidobe Awuzie (second round), Jourdan Lewis (third round) and Marquez White (sixth round).

To make matters more complicated, the Jets owe Revis $6 million for the 2017 season whether he plays or not, which means there isn’t much of an incentive for him to play for a low-money deal, seeing has he’ll make more by doing nothing.

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Revis for several months now, but that could change if someone gets hurt.

Revis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He was entering the third year of his five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $13 million for the 2017 season when he was released by the Jets.

In 2016, Revis appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 53 tackles, one interception, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
