Odell Beckham Jr Reportedly Targeting $20M Per Year In Long-Term Deal

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Giants and WR Odell Beckham Jr aren’t any closer to an agreement on a long-term extension.

Garafolo says that Beckham has told some people that he’s seeking as much as $20 million per year as part of a long-term commitment.

“I know that Odell Beckham has told some people that he wants some really significant numbers,” Garafolo said. “... It’s not gonna be top quarterback money, because top quarterback money is going through the roof.

“… He’s in the 20s. From what he has told people close to him, he wants to be in the low 20s.”

However, Garafolo can’t see the Giants offering this kind of money, considering that Antonio Brown is currently the high-water mark at $17 million per year. Garafolo also questions how Beckham Jr could force the team’s hand in negotiations to offer close to $20 million per year.

Beckham Jr said a few weeks ago at the NFL Honors show that he’s hoping to get a long-term extension in place this offseason.

“Hopefully to get it done,” Beckham said, via Dan Duggan of NJ.com. “It’s that time just to get it over with. I really want to do it so I can move past it. It’s too much sitting around thinking, ‘Where am I going to be at?’ I need to know where I can start buying furniture for a house. I want to have a place set where I know, ‘OK, this is home. I can always go back to home.’ So it’s just a little intermediate process right now. I’m sure it will get worked out.”

The regime in New York has said that they would like to keep Beckham Jr with the Giants for the foreseeable but you have to wonder if they could stand pat and look to franchise him next year if the price doesn’t drop.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We’ll have more regarding a new deal for Beckham as the news is available.
