Osi Umenyiora Prepared To Holdout?

Ralph Vacciano of the New York Daily News writes that New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora intends to holdout once the lockout is ended unless the team addresses his contract. Supposedly, Giants G.M. Jerry Reese promised that they would work out a new deal that would pay Umenyiora a top-five salary for defensive ends.

The problem for New York is that they will be close enough to the reported salary cap ($120 million) which will make it more than difficult to re-sign the free players let alone find room to give Umenyiora a top-five salary.

This situation could become toxic rather quick if the Giants choose to wait it out. There’s a chance that this results in a trade but it rarely happens. Just look at what happened with Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson last year.
