Report: Bears Have “Little Competition” For DE Lamarr Houston

March 11, 2014 Bears, Packers, Raiders, Vikings

Update:

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that the Chicago Bears have “little competition” for free agent DE Lamarr Houston as of Noon today.

Houston, 26, figures to be one of the most sought after defensive ends in this year’s free agent class now that Michael Bennett is off the market.

Last year, Houston played and started all 16 games for the Raiders totaling 69 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 defensive end in a 4-3 system.

We have Houston listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Packers were very interested in free agent DE Lamarr Houston before his price tag continued climb and ultimately forced them bow out.

The Bears have reportedly turned their attention to Houston in days, so it will be interesting to see what kind of contract he secures.

Ian Rapoport reports that Chicago Bears are now targeting Raiders free agent DE Lamarr Houston after missing out on Michael Bennett.

  • Rapoport adds that the Bears are “pushing hard” to sign Hosuton.

——————

Darren Wolfson reports that the Vikings have inquired about free agent DE Lamarr Houston.

  • Vikings reportedly like his versatility as a defensive lineman.
  • However, Wolfson expects Houston to sign elsewhere.

—————

Pete Dougherty has spoken to the agent for Raiders free agent DE Lamarr Houston who said that Packers have not called about his client.

Houston could be a decent fit for a team like the Packers. Although, they have shown a reluctance to spend big money on anyone who’s not one of their free agents.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Green Bay Packers are among the interested teams in Raiders’ free agent DE Lamarr Houston.

  • Rapoport adds that the amount of interest from Packers remains unknown at this time.
  • Geoff Mosher reports that the Eagles have “checked in” on Houston, but his asking price is likely to be too much for them.

Rapoport has been saying for months now that Green Bay is looking to get more athletic on the defensive side, so we’ll see if anything comes of this.

Being a Bears fan, i hope that because of our need, it doesnt cause them to go wild and over pay for him. I think hes good and deserves a good contract, I just dont want the Bears doing this out and overpaying because of desperation. Im ok with paying Peppers one more year and waiting to see what comes available next year and what we can get out of the draft! We pay Peppers 9m of his 18m if we cut him, we pay 8-9m for someone new, sounds like a push to me and Peppers isnt gonnago to Tampa and light it up, he could be 7-10 sacks, and I dont beleive that he wants to go out like this, he has to have some heart about wanting a legacy and going out big!
