Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that the Chicago Bears have “little competition” for free agent DE Lamarr Houston as of Noon today.

Houston, 26, figures to be one of the most sought after defensive ends in this year’s free agent class now that Michael Bennett is off the market.

Last year, Houston played and started all 16 games for the Raiders totaling 69 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 defensive end in a 4-3 system.

We have Houston listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

  1. Being a Bears fan, i hope that because of our need, it doesnt cause them to go wild and over pay for him. I think hes good and deserves a good contract, I just dont want the Bears doing this out and overpaying because of desperation. Im ok with paying Peppers one more year and waiting to see what comes available next year and what we can get out of the draft! We pay Peppers 9m of his 18m if we cut him, we pay 8-9m for someone new, sounds like a push to me and Peppers isnt gonnago to Tampa and light it up, he could be 7-10 sacks, and I dont beleive that he wants to go out like this, he has to have some heart about wanting a legacy and going out big!
