Packers Close To Making Aaron Rodgers The Highest Paid Player In The NFL

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Green Bay Packers are “getting closer” to reaching an agreement on a long-term contract extension with QB Aaron Rodgers.

  • Schefter adds that Rodgers next contract is expected to make him the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL.
  • Schefter has previously mentioned that Rodgers next contract will likely come close to a four-year deal worth $100 million.

The Packers have been sitting on close to $18 million in cap space with the intentions of getting Rodgers locked up long-term. Interestingly enough, Rodgers has two years remaining on his current contract with very reasonable base salaries of $9.25 million and $10.5 million. Typically a team wouldn’t start negotiating a new contract unless those figures were weighing down their financial situation, but it appears as though the Packers feel that Rodgers has outplayed that contract and is deserving of being league’s highest paid player.
