ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Green Bay Packers are close to reaching an agreement with former Colts C Jeff Saturday. Schefter source mentions that the deal is “not done, but very likely.”

There’s no doubt that Green Bay had to find a replacement for Scott Wells after he signed with the Rams last week, but it really seemed like a foregone conclusion that Saturday would follow Peyton Manning to Denver, given that they’ve played nearly their entire careers together.

Last night there were reports that the Broncos had serious competition from the Titans and Packers for Saturday’s services which ultimately proved to be the case.

Saturday, 36, has been a very effective player in recent years despite his age. Pro Football Focus rated him as the #4 best center in 2010 and #5 last year, so I’m sure that he could still be at least a serviceable player for them.
