Packers Discussing A Long-Term Deal With CB Sam Shields

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Packers have been in contact with restricted free agent Sam Shields regarding a long-term contract extension.

Florio adds that as of now, an agreement is not imminent.

Green Bay placed a second-round tender on him that will pay him $2.02 million for the upcoming season.

Last year, Shields really came on for the Packers secondary. He graded out as No. 15 cornerback in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

Considering that the Packers place a large emphasis on retaining their own players, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them continue to work on a long-term agreement that would prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent next season. For the time being, the Packers will most likely focus on getting Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews locked up.
