Packers Working Out Veteran RB Joique Bell On Monday, Expected To Sign Him

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Packers are expected to sign veteran RB Joique Bell to a contract on Monday.

  • Rob Demovsky reports that Bell is just working out for the team.

Green Bay could clearly use some help at running back, as they’ve been forced to play Ty Montgomery and Don Jackson at running back now that Eddie Lacy is on injured reserve and James Starks continues to nurse a knee injury.

The Packers traded for Knile Davis but he lasted just a few weeks before they cut him loose.

Bell gives the Packers more of a between-the-tackles running back, who could be a decent compliment to Montgomery.

Bell, 30, originally signed on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Wayne State back in 2010. After brief stints with the Eagles, Colts and Saints, Bell signed a two-year contract with the Lions towards the end of the 2011 season.

Bell spent four years in Detroit before he was released back in February. The Bears elected to sign him to a contract a few months ago but released him not long after.

In 2106, Bell has appeared in four games for the Bears and ran for six yards on three carries and no touchdowns.
