Packers Expected To Get Long-Term Deal Done With WR Randall Cobb

Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports that the “feeling around the league” is that there’s no way the Green Bay Packers will allow impending free agent WR Randall Cobb to reach the open market next year.

It will get done,” said an NFL personnel executive who spoke to Demovsky. “He’s a Ted guy.

Cobb is in the midst of a very impressive season, which will clearly need to be factored into any contract offer from the Packers.

According to Demovsky, Cobb is unlikely to secure a similar contract to one signed by Jordy Nelson several months ago —  five-year, $43 million contract that includes $11.5 million guaranteed. However, Demovsky believes Cobb could close to $6 million to $7 million in annual salary.

Green Bay is known for taking care of their homegrown talent and Cobb has been an incredible No. 2 option in their offense, so it would not be surprising to see them get a deal in place before free agency gets underway next March.

Cobb, 24, is finishing up his four-year, $3.209 million rookie contract that included $1,375,500 guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of just $812,648 for the 2014 season.

This year, Cobb has caught 54 passes forr 779 yards receiving and a staggering 10 touchdowns over the course of 10 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 receiver in the league out of 109 qualifying players.

We have him listed as the No. 11 player in our Top 25 – 2015 Free Agents list.
