Chargers, Jets & Buccaneers Among Interested Teams In Trading Up With Packers

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that the Chargers, Jets, and Buccaneers are among the teams calling the Packers about the No. 33 overall pick.

  • Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers are debating between Washington CB Kevin King and FSU RB Dalvin Cook if they hold onto the No. 33 pick.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Packers are getting trade calls from teams intersted in moving up to No. 33 overall for Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer.

According to Rapoport, it’s still possible the Packers could hold onto the pick and take their preferred player to open round two.

Kizer, 21, is one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft and some feel as though he has the highest ceiling of any quarterback this year.

Kizer visited with the Cardinals, Bills, Chiefs and Browns and worked out for the Browns, Bears, Chargers, 49ers and Jets during the pre-drat process.

During his college career at Notre Dame, Kizer threw for 5,805 yards while completing 60.7 percent of his passes to go along with 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over the course of 25 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class and the No. 68 player overall.

Packers GM Ted Thompson told reporters after the first round of the 2017 draft ended that they plan to field trade offers for the No. 33 overall pick.

“Oh yeah. You can put that down. That’ll save us a couple phone calls,” Thompson said, per Wes Hodkiewicz. “We’re taking calls.

Green Bay elected to trade out of round 1 altogether, despite some notable defensive players still being on the board and now hold the top pick of round two, which is typically a coveted selection.

Thompson explained that the board fell in their favor and they feel comfortable about where things sit entering day two.

The Packers have a number directions they could go with the pick, as they could use help at cornerback, outside linebacker, inside linebacker, running back and guard.

We’ll have more regarding trades involving the Packers and the No. 33 overall pick as the news is available.
