Packers HC Mike McCarthy Could Be On The Hot Seat?

According to Jason Cole of B/R, the Packers’ front office is taking QB Aaron Rodgers‘ criticism of the team’s lack of energy this past weekend against the Colts “very seriously” as they consider how to fix their current issues.

Cole spoke to one source who believes the possibility exists that the Packers could dismiss HC Mike McCarthy. While the Packers elected to sign McCarthy to an extension a few years ago, Cole says that there was a lot of deliberation at the time about whether to sign him to a new deal.

Others have wondered if McCarthy could be on the hot seat, considering that the Packers haven’t returned to the Super Bowl, despite having one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Beyond that, Green Bay’s offense has really struggled in recent years and McCarthy hasn’t been able to get things turned around.

McCarthy, 52, signed a five-year extension in 2014 that ties him to GM Ted Thompson. The Packers are notoriously patient and rarely make major changes, so it would be somewhat surprising to see them fire McCarthy.

Since taking the job back in 2006, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 108-59-1 (64.6 percent) to go along with eight playoff appearances including a Super Bowl title in 2010.

We’ll have more regarding McCarthy and the Packers as the news is available.
