Packers in “Regular Contact” With Free Agent TE Andrew Quarless

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that impending free agent TE Andrew Quarless‘ representatives have been in “regular contact” with Green Bay.

This news comes shortly after reports suggesting that the Giants will heavily pursue Quarless.  The Giants new offensive coordinator is Ben McAdoo, who coached Quarless in Green Bay, where he served as quarterbacks coach.

The Packers are still waiting for some clarity regarding TE Jermichael Finley, who is attempting to return to the NFL after spinal surgery.

Quarless caught 32 passes last season for 312 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Green Bay received virtually no production in the pass catching department from the team’s other tight end options-Ryan Taylor and Jake Stoneburner.

The Packers do have more than $35 million in estimated cap space for 2014 according to overthecap.com, so they should be able to bring Quarless back if they want him.

Pro Football Focus ranked Quarless as the 44th best tight end last season.
