Packers Interested In Re-Signing G Jahri Evans

Ryan Wood of PackersNew.com reports that the Packers are interested in re-signing veteran G Jahri Evans for the 2018 season.

Wood says that it likely wouldn’t cost Green Bay very much to re-sign Evans, as he’s likely to make less than the $2.25 million he was paid this season. However, this assumes that Evans doesn’t retire from the NFL.

Should Evans call it a career, Wood mentions that Justin McCray would be first replacement option at right guard.

The Packers have been aggressive in recent days by re-signing WR Davante Adams and C Corey Linsley to new deals, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see if they can get something done with Evans before the start of free agency.

Evans, 34, is a former fourth-round pick of the Saints back in 2006. He spent 10 years in New Orleans before he was released by the Saints in 2016.

The Seahawks eventually signed him to a contract but he lasted just a month in Seattle before he was among their final roster cuts. Evans returned to the Saints a few days later on a one-year contract.

The Packers gave Evans a one-year, $2,250,000 contract this past April.

In 2017, Evans appeared in 14 games for the Packers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 30 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
