Packers Interviewed Badgers DC Dave Aranda Last Week

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Green Bay Packers interviewed University of Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Aranda for an unspecified position last Friday.

Aranda reportedly met with Packers HC Mike McCarthy, DC Dom Capers and GM Ted Thompson among others.

According to McGinn, the assumption is Aranda was being considered for the position the Packers that University of Oklahoma assistant Jerry Montgomery took earlier in the week.

McGinn believes the most logical position would be as an assistant coach on the defensive front-seven or as a general defensive assistant.

Adding Aranda to their staff may have created some in-state issues given that the Badgers had to find another head coach just a few months ago, and it appeared as though they finally had things settled.

Reports from a few days ago said that McCarthy was actually considering promoting OC Tom Clements to assistant head coach and handing over play-calling duties, while Edgar Bennett would move up the ranks to offensive coordinator.

There has been a lot of talk that changes could be coming to the Packers coaching staff, but it appears as though they are relatively minor, at least on the defensive side of the ball.

Green Bay fired special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum close to two weeks ago, and the assumption is that Ron Zook will take over for him. Although, McCarthy has yet to make any announcements regarding their staff.
