Packers Don’t Ask TE Jermichael Finley To Take A Pay Cut

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Packers did not ask TE Jermichael Finley‘s to take a pay cut or even structure his contract.

He will now be paid a $3 million roster bonus due on Tuesday, along with a base salary of $8.25 million for the 2013 season.

Finley, 25, is in the final year of his contract, so it will be interesting to see if he’s finally capable of living up expectations when it counts the most.

Update:

According to a source who spoke with Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Packers have informed Jermichael Finley‘s agent that they’re “uncomfortable” with his current $8.25 million salary.

Dunne adds that the two sides have already talked about the matter.

Green Bay will need to make a decision in the near future regarding his status with the team, considering that Finley has a $3 million roster bonus due on Tuesday.

Ian Rapoport reports that Packers TE Jermichael Finley has a $3 million roster bonus due on Tuesday.

Rapoport mentions that he expects to see the Packers keep Finley, but believes Green Bay could still approach him regarding a pay cut.

Finley, 25, has an $8.25 million salary coming his way this season, which is also the final year of his current contract. Green Bay has some cap space to work with, so they should be able to address the contracts of Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews at some point this offseason. Certainly, it would help to free up some extra cash by reducing Finley’s 2013 salary, but it’s by no means a major issue.

The fact that they lost Greg Jennings to the Vikings makes it likely that Finley will be back with the team, seeing as there’s no obvious candidate to replace him on their roster.
