Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Packers are expected to be without workhorse RB Eddie Lacy for “several” weeks.

  • According to Rapoport, Lacy has more than just a sprained ankle.
  • Adam Schefter reports that Lacy is seeking a second opinion on his foot injury from Dr. Bob Anderson. His source added that “anything else is speculation,

This explains why the Packers traded for Chiefs backup RB Knile Davis earlier in the day. It’s still possible Green Bay could promote RB Don Jackson from their practice squad, but you can expect them to keep using Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery at running back for the time being.

A source tells ESPN’s Ed Werder that he doesn’t expect Packers RB Eddie Lacy to play in Thursday’s game against the Bears.

“I can’t see him playing,’‘ Werder’s source said of Lacy.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters Tuesday that Lacy’s injured ankle is “pretty sore” and he will not participate in today’s practice.

Lacy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.392 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $867,602 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Lacy has rushed for 360 yards on 71 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 28 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 running back out of 55 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Lacy as the news is available.
