Packers Officially Sign OLB Ahmad Brooks, Place OL Don Barclay On I.R.

The Green Bay Packers announced Sunday that they’ve officially signed veteran OLB Ahmad Brooks to a contract and placed OL Don Barclay on injured reserve.

Brooks reported receives a one-year contract that can be worth up to $5 million.

The Packers really needed some pass rush depth behind Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, and given that Brooks is one of the best available free agents at the position, this looks like a pretty good fit for him.

Brooks, 33, is a former supplemental third-round pick of the Bengals back in 2006. He spent two years in Cincinnati before he was claimed off of waivers by the 49ers in 2008.

In 2016, Brooks appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 35 tackles, six sacks, four pass defenses and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
