Packers Placing CB Sam Shields On Injured Reserve

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Packers are placing CB Sam Shields on injured reserve Tuesday, as his concussion has not subsided as they’d first hoped.

  • According to Garafolo, Shields has had five concussions in his career and both the Packers and their doctors are intent on making sure he’s right before he returns to the field.

Shields announced via his Instagram announced that he plans to return later on this year.

“I’m making great progress and hope to come back in 8 weeks and play this season,” writes Shields. “I will make a full recovery within that time frame. #gopackgo.”

Shields, 28, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2010. He’s spent all six years of his career with the Packers and is currently in the third year of his four-year, $39 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $8 million this season.

In 2016, Shields has appeared in one game and recorded three tackles for the Packers.
