Packers Plan Without Greg Jennings?

As amazing as it sounds, the Green Bay Packers haven’t lost a game in over a year and are two games away from tying the New England Patriots record of 21 straight wins. But Sunday’s blowout win came with a price that could alter the teams offense for the remainder of the season.

Wide receiver Greg Jennings suffered what is currently being referred to as a knee sprain during yesterday’s win over the Oakland Raiders. Reports from last night mentioned that initial tests didn’t reveal a tear but an MRI today will ultimately determine the severity of the injury.

Green Bay has number of great receiving options and arguably the best quarterback in the league but Jennings plays a role that the others are not use to playing. Jordy Nelson is having an incredible year but he’s not a possession receiver and is extremely valuable as a deep threat. James Jones is not as quick and Donald Driver, despite playing great for his age, isn’t as explosive as Jennings. Rookie wide-receiver Randall Cobb figures to be the closest fit to Jenning’s skill set. The loss of Jennings should equate to more looks for tight end Jermichael Finley who hasn’t seen much action in recent weeks.

It’s the next man up right now,” said Finley. “Last year, I went down at the beginning of the season and Greg stepped up. So this year, it’ll be on our receiving corps to step up. He’s a big-time playmaker on this offense and he’s going to be missed. There’s going to be a lot of the shoulders of whoever takes his spot.”

The Packers won’t take any chances with Jennings for the rest of the regular season even if he only has a knee sprain. As of now Jennings will have five weeks to recover for the teams first playoff game. We’ll post updates as soon as they’re available.
