Packers Prepared To Go With The “Hot Hand” At RB

Packers head coach Mike McCartthy said Alex Green will start with Sunday night against the Texans, but the team will play the “hot hand,” per Jason Wilde of 540 ESPN Milwaukee.

“I have no time for competition. We’re going to take the hot hand,” McCarthy said after practice Wednesday, via Wilde. “Alex and James both got reps today (with the starters) and so did Brandon Saine. The first carry will be Alex Green. He’s a little farther ahead than James is right now and that’s the way we’ll go. But we have three halfbacks and we’ll utilize all three of them.”

Green will get the nod over James Starks and Saine because he, unlike the other two, has taken regular-season snaps. Starks has been recovering from a turf toe injury he suffered in the Packers August 9th preseason opener. As Benson’s backup this season, Green has 12 carries for 65 yards while only playing 29 offensive snaps. It’s hard to assume that Green, Starks, or Saine will have a major impact in Sunday night’s game, as the Packers don’t rely heavily on their ground attack and the Texans are obviously a very good defense.
