Packers Promote QB Joe Callahan To Active Roster

The Green Bay Packers promoted QB Joe Callahan from their practice squad to the active roster, according to Tom Silverstein.

Silverstein notes that this could be a precautionary measure in case Aaron Rodgers‘ calf injury causes him to miss this week. However, there is no sign towards Rodgers missing a game at this point.

Callahan, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College back in May. He was able to make the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback coming out of the preseason.

The Packers elected to cut him loose and were hoping to sign him to their practice squad but the Saints wound up claiming him off of waivers. New Orleans also wound up in a roster crunch and cut Callahan loose back in October and he was once again claimed off waivers by the Browns.

Cleveland cut Callahan to make room for QB Robert Griffin III being activated off injured reserve.

During the preseason, Callahan threw for 499 yards while completing 61.4 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
