Packers ILB Sam Barrington announced via his Twitter account Thursday that Green Bay has hired Ron Zook as the team’s new Special Teams coordinator.

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported earlier in the week that the Packers were likely promote Zook to special teams coordinator at some point this week, as he was viewed as the “front-runner” for the job.

The Packers announced last Friday that they parted ways with Shawn Slocum.

Green Bay’s special teams unit was consistently one of the worst units in the NFL, so it was clear that a change needed to be made. We’ll have to see if Zook is capable of getting them to play at a higher level next year.
