Packers Promoting QB Joe Callahan To Active Roster

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Packers are promoting QB Joe Callahan to their active roster on Monday.

The Packers had to add a backup quarterback now that Aaron Rodgers will miss at least next few month with a broken collarbone and Callahan was the obvious move.

The Packers will move forward with Brett Hundley as their starting quarterback.

Callahan, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College back in May of last year. He was able to make the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback coming out of the preseason but was later cut loose.

Callahan had brief stints with the Saints and Browns before returning to the Packers during the season last year.

Green Bay cut Callahan loose as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players last month and he was later signed to their practice squad.

During the preseason, Callahan threw for 112 yards while completing 61.9 percent of his passes to go along with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
