Mike McCarthy: Aaron Rodgers Has “Significant Injury” That Will Require Surgery, Season Could Be Over

Update:

On Monday, Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters that QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a “significant injury” that will require surgery, and potentially end his 2017 season, per Tom Pelissero.

It’s worth mentioning that former NFL physician, David Chao, believes surgery may actually speed up Rodgers’ recovery from a broken collarbone. Even so, Chao says Rodgers will likely miss eight weeks at minimum, which is why there’s talk he could be done for the year.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) will undergo further testing to determine the next course of action for his broken collarbone.

  • Rapoport says that there’s still a chance Rodgers could return late in the season, but this is just a chance and by no means a guarantee.

The Green Bay Packers confirmed the report that QB Aaron Rodgers does, in fact, have a broken collarbone and could miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

This is obviously terrible news for Green Bay and Rodgers. It’s possible that the Packers could place Rodgers on injured reserve in the coming weeks if they believe he’s looking a long absence.

Either way, the Packers will move forward with Brett Hundley as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future with Joe Callahan operating as his backup.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers left Sunday’s game against the Vikings after taking hit from LB Anthony Barr. After he was evaluated in the sideline tent, Rodgers was carted to the locker room for further evaluation.

The Packers announced that Rodgers is questionable to return with a right shoulder injury.

Rodgers has been replaced by Brett Hundley.

Rodgers, 33, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2005. He’s currently in the fifth year of his seven-year, $130.75 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $12.55 million and $19.8 million over the next two years of the agreement.

Entering today’s game, Rodgers had thrown for 1,367 yards while completing 66.7 percent of his passes to go along with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 83 yards.

We’ll have more regarding Rodgers’ injury as the news is available.
