Packers RB Aaron Jones Suspended Two Games

The NFL announced Tuesday that Packers RB Aaron Jones has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2018 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

This stems from Jones’ arrest back in October of last year after he was stopped by police and admitted to smoking marijuana. Jones pleaded not guilty to counts of speeding, driving without a valid license and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his system.

Jones was reportedly pulled over for speeding after he was clocked traveling 79 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. The officer smelled marijuana emanating from Jones’ vehicle and observed that Jones had red, bloodshot eyes.

Jones admitted that smoked marijuana after eating breakfast and later passed a sobriety test.

Jones, 23, was taken in the fifth-round of last year’s draft by the Packers. He signed a four-year, $2.6 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the first two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Jones appeared in 12 games for the Packers and rushed for 448 yards on 81 carries (5.5 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 22 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
