Packers Reportedly Prioritizing Contracts For Randall Cobb & Bryan Bulaga

Rob Demovsky of ESPN has spoken to “several people at the combine with knowledge of how the Packers are operating” who have said that GM Ted Thompson and VP of player finance Russ Ball are focused on re-signing their free agents WR Randall Cobb and RT Bryan Bulaga.

According to Demovsky, everything that isn’t related to Cobb and Bulaga appears to be on hold for the Packers right now, including their other free agents.

As of now, fellow free agent CB Tramon Williams and his agent haven’t heard from the Packers.  Although, that could change once they have a better idea of where things stand with Cobb and Bulaga.

“We’ll talk at some point and we’ll get a better feel then,” Williams agent, Rodney Williams said. “He’s OK either way. It’s a good time to be in either situation.

Demovsky previously reported that Cobb is seeking a contract that would pay him an annual salary of $9 million, and other reports have said as much.

This salary could leave Cobb in position to secure a deal close Jordy Nelson‘s four-year, $39 million contract he received from the Packers last year.

The window for teams to apply franchise tags opened today, but there has no indication that Green Bay is willing to go this route.

Cobb, 24, played out his four-year, $3,209,421 rookie contract and is clearly in position for a sizable raise this offseason.

In 2014, Cobb caught 91 passes for 1,287 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He also contributed as the team’s punt returner this year. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 wide receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

Bulaga, 25, is in the final year of his rookie contract and is well positioned to be one of the most sought after offensive tackles in this year’s free agent market.

The Packers have placed a large emphasis on retaining their young players, so it would not be surprising to see them try to get a deal in place for Bulaga before free agency is underway in March.

Pro Football Focus has Bulaga rated as the No. 16 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players this year.

We have both players listed in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
