Packers Rule Out WR Jordy Nelson For Sunday’s Game

Packers HC Mike McCarthy announced Friday that they’re ruling out WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.

“We’re going to declare him out for the game Sunday,” McCarthy said of Nelson.

McCarthy added that they will reevaluate Nelson on Monday if they’re able to beat the Cowboys and advance in the playoffs.

This doesn’t come as a big surprise, considering that Nelson reportedly sustained multiple broken ribs last week.

The concern for Nelson is that playing through rib fractures is not only painful, but it could put him in position to possibly sustain an organ injury.

Nelson, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Packer back in 2008. He’s currently in the third year of his five-year, $43 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $8.25 million and $9.25 million over the final two years of the contract.

In 2016, Nelson has appeared in all 16 games and caught 97 passes for 1,257 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns.
