Mike McCarthy Expects S Nick Collins To Receive A Positive Report From Doctors

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy mentioned that he expects S Nick Collins to receive a positive report in the next few weeks when he meets with the doctors that performed his procedure.

I think that’s a starting point,” said McCarthy, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I anticipate that (the surgeon) is going to say it’s a very positive report because I know they felt good about the surgery. To me, that’s really the first step. Then our doctors have to get involved, and we’ll all sit down and talk to Nick and see where nick is, so it will be a process that we’ll go through.”

Rob Demovsky points out that this is likely just the first step in the process for Collins who will also have to convince the Packers medical staff, front office, coaching staff, and his agent that it’s the right decision for him.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he would not be willing to allow FS Nick Collins play football again if he was his son.

This is not about me,” McCarthy said. “I’m just talking about, if that was my son, if Nick was my son, I would not let him play.”

Collins, 28,  is set to learn his fate later in the week when he’ll meet with the doctors that performed his neck surgery. I can understand that Collins would like to return to the NFL but considering the severity of his injury and the fact that he plays a position that requires him to hit opposing players, I just can’t see him playing again.

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel updates Packers FS Nick Collins by reporting that the team should know whether or not he’ll be able to continue his NFL career in “a week or two.”

When that day comes, I might be nervous but right now I’m not really thinking about it,” Collins said. “I’ve been a family man, working out and staying in shape. That’s pretty much it.”

As much as I’m sure that they’d like to have him back, Collins’ surgery was an extremely serious procedure. Dunne mentions that Collins underwent a cervical neck fusion surgery that took a bone graft from his hip and placed it between the C3 and C4 vertebrae in his neck.

I’d honestly be surprised to see his resume his career next season given the position that he plays.
