Packers Sign TE Jared Cook To A One-Year, $3.6M Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent TE Jared Cook was spotted in Green Bay Monday and is set to sign with the team.

According to Rapoport, Cook receives a one-year contract worth $3.6 million from the Packers.
Tom Pelissero reports that the Packers initially offered Cook a two-year deal, but settled on this one-year agreement that includes contract incentives.
Rand Getlin reports that Cook had interest from the Falcons, Panthers, and Bears before signing on with the Packers.

Green Bay brought Cook in a for a visit a few weeks ago, but he wound up leaving town without an agreement in place. Since then, there wasn’t any reported interest in Cook, so it appeared as though the Packers could be his best option.

Cook will give them an athletic tight end to work with, which is something they haven’t had since Jermichael Finley got hurt.

It’s worth mentioning that signing to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

Cook, 28, was a big-ticket free agent signing back in 2013. He was entering the fourth year of his five-year, $35.11 million contract that included $19 million guaranteed when he was released by the Rams along with B James Laurinaitis and DE Chris Long over a few month ago.

In 2015, Cook appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 39 receptions for 481 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 53 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.
