Packers Sign CB Bene Benwikere To Practice Squad, Release CB Keith Baxter

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Packers have signed CB Bene Benwikere to their practice squad on Tuesday.

  • The Packers also released CB Keith Baxter from the unit.

Yesterday, Benwikere’s practice squad contract officially expired.

The Packers need all the depth they can get at cornerback, as they continue to deal with injuries in the secondary.

Benwikere, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s was in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season when the Panthers elected to cut him loose back in October.

Benwikere was later claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins. However, Miami cut him loose soon after and he was later added to their practice squad.

In 2016, Benwikere has appeared in four games for the Panthers and recorded 10 tackles, one interception and four pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
