Packers Sign HC Mike McCarthy To A Multi-Year Extension

The Green Bay Packers announced Monday that they have signed HC Mike McCarthy to a new multi-year contract.

We are very happy to extend our relationship with Mike,” GM Ted Thompson said. “Over the past nine years, he’s provided great stability and consistency to the Packers organization and our community as an excellent coach and leader. He’s a good man and we look forward to the future with Mike as our head coach.”

The Packers were expected to address McCarthy’s deal at some point this year given that they had already locked up Thompson to a multi-year extension as well.

Thompson’s contract runs through the 2018 season, so it would make sense that McCarthy’s new deal would be in line with this timeline as the Packers have maintained this approach throughout their tenure in Green Bay.

Interestingly enough, McCarthy is just five wins away from tying legendary Packers HC Vince Lombardi in wins.

McCarthy is in his ninth season as the Packers’ head coach and has a regular season record of 87-48-1 (64.4 percent) to go along with six playoff wins and a Super Bowl title.
