Packers & Texans Have Met With Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o

Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o fielded questions from the media this afternoon and mentioned that he’s already met with the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers, and expects to visit with another 18 teams at some point in the next few days.

It’s worth noting that draft prospects typically meet with several NFL teams during the Combine, so it’s not a clear indication that those two teams have their eyes set on Te’o.

With that being said, the Texans could use another inside linebacker to play next to Brian Cushing in the coming years. Bradie James, 32, will be a free agent in the next few weeks and was rated as a below average linebacker last season by Pro Football Focus.

As for the Packers, they too could use another inside linebacker. A.J. Hawk, 29, has base salaries of $4.9 million coming his way in 2013 and 2014, as well as another $5.4 million in 2015. He showed some improvement this season after they lost Desmond Bishop for the season to a hamstring injury, but even with the improvements, he was still below average at best, according to PFF.

Adding Te’o is at least an interesting idea to consider for the time being.
