ESPN’s Field Yates confirms that the Packers declined to pick up OLB Nick Perry‘s fifth-year option before yesterday’s deadline.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN writes that the Packers are not expected to pick up OLB Nick Perry‘s fifth-year option in the coming weeks.
Doing so would cost the Packers $7.751 million for the 2016 season. However, this figure is guaranteed for injury only and wouldn’t prevent them from working out a long-term deal that would come with a lower cap figure.
Green Bay was hoping that Perry could develop into a solid counterpart to Clay Matthews, but he has been limited to a situational pass rusher role with the team.
Perry, 25, is entering the final year of his four-year, $7.5 million rookie contract that included $6.4 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $1,412,625 for the 2015 season.
In 2014, appeared in 15 games for the Packers and recorded 24 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense for the Packers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 42 qualifying players.

I don’t see him getting a long term deal from the Packers…Ted will let him test Free Agency. He hasn’t come close to playing up to his first round selection. His stats would be okay if he played Nose Tackle but not for a pass rushing DE/OLB.
