Packers Waive DT Aiulua Fanene, Place DB Herb Waters On I.R.

The Green Bay Packers officially placed DB Herb Waters on injured reserve Friday after he passed through waivers unclaimed and waived DT Aiulua Fanene with a non-football injury designation.

Waters recently suffered a season-ending shoulder injury which led to him being placed on waivers with an injury designation Thursday.

Waters, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in May of last year. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to their practice squad.

During his college career at Miami, Waters played receiver and caught 99 passes for 1,534 yards receiving and nine touchdowns over the course of 42 games.

Fanene wound up going undrafted out of Arizona back in May. This will be his first opportunity with an NFL team. The Packers just signed him to a contract on Thursday, so his stay in Green Bay was obviously short-lived.

During his college career at Arizona, Fanene recorded 23 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, no sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense over the course of 18 games.
