SOURCE: Packers Waive Fifth-Round WR DeAngelo Yancey

A league source tells NFLTR that the Green Bay Packers are placing fifth-round WR DeAngelo Yancey on waivers Saturday.

This is a surprising move, considering how the Packers value their draft picks. Yancey could be a candidate for the practice squad if he’s able to clear waivers.

Yancey, 22, was taken in the fifth round of this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $2.62 million contract with the Packers and stands to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract.

During his four-year college career at Purdue, Yancey caught 141 passes for 2,344 yards receiving (16.6 YPR) and 20 touchdowns for the Boilermakers. As a senior, Yancey finished in the top-10 in receptions yards and touchdowns while leading the league in yards per reception. He was voted second-team All-Big Ten last year.
