Packers Waive Former First-Round Pick OT Derek Sherrod, Activate OL J.C Tretter

The Packers placed former first-round pick OT Derek Sherrod on waivers Monday, according to NFL transactions release.

  • Green Bay also activated OL J.C Tretter from short-term injured reserve, who will take Sherrod’s spot on their active roster.

The Packers elected not to pick up Sherrod’s fifth-year option several months ago, which came as no surprise given that he has been limited to being active for just 12 games over the course of his first three years in the NFL. Of course, this is due to the fact that he suffered a very serious compound leg fracture.

This season, Sherrod appeared in eight games, but has played just six snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

He could end up on the Packers’ practice squad if he clears waivers.
