ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Green Bay Packers will release OT Chad Clifton at some point today after he failed a recent physical.
There was some talk months ago that this move could be coming as Clifton had back surgery during the offseason and was set to make a base salary of $5.25 million for the upcoming season as well as a $203,125 roster bonus. The Packers could use some extra cap space, but they could also use some additional help at the offensive tackle position now that Clifton’s gone, and first-round pick Derek Sherrod is coming off of a serious leg injury.
