Packers Will Save $1.4M In Cap Space Over Next Four Years Following Aaron Rodgers’ Injury

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Green Bay Packers will save $350,000 in caps space each of the next four years due to a cap credit that stems from an insurance policy they took out on QB Aaron Rodgers last year.

Rodgers suffered a fractured collarbone and subsequently missed seven games last season, which triggered the cap credit.

In total, the Packers will save $1.4 million over this span of time. However, Demovsky notes that Rodgers’ 2018 and 2019 cap figures of $20.9M and $21.1M will remain unchanged.

Rodgers, 30, signed a seven-year, $130.75 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed with Green Bay last April. His base salary for the 2014 season is just $900,000, but his contract includes a $9.5 million roster bonus that will obviously be picked up.

Last year, Rodgers was limited to playing nine games, but he completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 2,536 yards to go along with 17 interceptions and six touchdowns.
