Packers Won’t Pick Up OT Derek Sherrod’s Fifth-Year Option

Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports that the Packers will not exercise OT Derek Sherrod‘s fifth-year option.

  • Demovsky adds that he isn’t sure if the team has informed Sherrod of their decision.

This should come as no surprise as Sherrod’s has been limited to being active for just 12 games over the course of his three years in the NFL. Of course, this is due to the fact that he suffered a very serious compound leg fracture.

Green Bay used the No. 32 overall pick on him back in 2011 after winning the Super Bowl, which seemed like a good move given that Chad Clifton was expected to retire.

Picking up Sherrod’s option would have cost the Packers $7.438 million for the 2015 season.
