Packers Worked Out 4 Players Including TE Kennard Backman

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers worked out four players on Tuesday including TE Kennard BackmanQB Mike Bercovici, WR Mitch Mathews, and RB Daryl Virgies.

Demovsky mentions that Backman underwent arthroscopic knee surgery shortly after the Packers reached an injury settlement with him.

Backman, 23, was originally drafted by the Packers in the sixth round of last year’s draft out of UAB. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but he was waived with an injury designation as Green Bay cut their roster down to 75 players.

After clearing waivers, Backman was added to the Packers’ practice squad but was unfortunately waived back in September. Backman has since been on and off of the Patriots’ practice squad in recent weeks.

In 2015, Backman appeared in seven games for the Packers but did not record a single

Mathews, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of BYU back in May. He was set to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season, but he was unfortunately waived in the final week of the preseason.

The Browns signed him to their practice squad back in October but cut him loose a few week later.

During his college career, he caught 152 passes for 2,083 yards (13.7 YPR) and 24 touchdowns over the course of 41 games.
