Conflicting Reports About The Panthers Possibly Trading Jonathan Stewart Or DeAngelo Williams

Despite signing Mike Tolbert earlier this morning, the Charlotte Observer reports that “multiple team sources” have informed then that the Panthers are “unlikely” to trade RB Jonathan Stewart.

Last night there were rumors circulating that the Panthers could deal Stewart if they signed Tolbert to a contract. ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas still believes that a deal could happen despite the Observers’ report.

Yasinskas mentions that Tolbert was signed to be the teams’ “No. 2 running back” and believes that either DeAngelo Williams or Stewart could be shopped around in the coming weeks. Yasinskas specifically mentions the Broncos as one team that could have interest in DeAngelo Williams.

Trading will Williams will be difficult because of his contract but not impossible, especially if someone like John Fox shows interest in acquiring him.

ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas writes that Mike Tolbert‘s scheduled visit with the Panthers could lead the team to consider moving either Jonathan Stewart or DeAngelo Williams.

Yasinskas specifically mentions that Stewart makes the most sense considering that Williams is under contract for a ridiculous sum of money which something that prospective teams wouldn’t be willing to take on.

This is just speculation at this time but adding Tolbert would definitely impact the amount of carrier going around next season in Carolina should they chose to keep all three of them. It’s worth noting that Pro Football Focus rated Stewart as one of the more productive backs in the league last year (#11) while Williams comes in at #40 overall. Oh, and Tolbert was rated #27.
