Panthers DE Greg Hardy Found Guilty Of Assault

The judge presiding over Panthers DE Greg Hardy‘s case has found him guilty on two accounts of assaulting his former girlfriend, per Steve Reed.

• Hardy has been sentenced to a 60-day suspension,18 months of probation or until he completes a program. (Jonathan Jones)
• Hardy will appeal the ruling and has requested a jury trial in Superior Court. (Joe Person)
• Hardy will get permission to travel with the Panthers. (Jonathan Jones)

Hardy is likely to face discipline from the NFL and the Panthers.

All things considered, it appears likely that Hardy will be allowed to test the open market next year as it would cost the Panthers an additional 20 percent to franchise him again.

In 2013, Hardy totaled 59 tackles, 15 sacks and a forced fumble for Carolina. We have Hardy listed as the No. 3 player in our Top 25 – 2015 Free Agents List.

Panthers DE Greg Hardy appeared in court Tuesday regarding domestic violence charges that stem from a dispute that occurred in May with his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder.

Hardy plead not guilty to charges of communicating threats and assaulting Holder, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reported Monday that a long-term agreement between the Panthers and Hardy is “unlikely” before Tuesday’s deadline to negotiate with franchised players.

Given that he is currently dealing with a court case, it makes sense that the Panthers would off on locking up the defensive end until they have an idea of what the courts’ determination is for pending charges.

There is a decent chance that Carolina and the NFL could hand down punishment for his involvement in the domestic violence incident at some point this year.
